Description
Condition
Bofons were underground receipt-notes of OUN and UPA. They served as acknowledgements for donations and as a visual communication tool. The reverse bears a stamp with fields for the amount in karbovanets and the note “na B.F.” meaning “for the combat fund”. Khasevych’s imagery boosted morale, shaped the visual language of resistance and today stands among the foremost works of underground graphic art. Most print runs were destroyed by MGB raids and through hard field use.
A sequence of marching scenes affirming continuity of struggle and unit discipline. Harsh hatching typical of Khasevych.
Bofon 1 Column of insurgents in a forest: horizontal composition with a long column moving along a woodland path.
Bofon 2 Crossing a footbridge over a pond: a group passes a wooden deck above water.
Bofon 3 March along a ridge: a platoon advances over a gentle slope. Foreground pair of fighters, road and trees receding to the horizon.
Three original UPA bofons from 1949, Rivne region. Underground OUN donation receipts designed by Nil Khasevych in woodcut. A marching scenes set: a forest column, a footbridge crossing, a ridge march. Reverses carry a blue stamp with “krb.” and “for the combat fund”. These are receipts, not circulating money.
Very good, minor age spots at edges, small handling wear.
